AT LEAST 7-14 DAYS BEFORE SURGERY:
Proper nutrition and hydration can help your body prepare for and recover from surgery.
• Prepare healthy and balanced meals that include foods from all food groups: protein, whole grains, fresh vegetables, fruits & dairy.
• Include high quality protein such as poultry, lean meat, fish, eggs, beans, legumes, low fat natural yogurt and nuts to your meals and snacks to help your body prepare for healing after surgery. Natural yogurts are a great option and contain probiotics that are beneficial for your health before and after surgery.
• Consume fiber from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes to promote a healthy digestive tract.
• Consume at least 8 cups of water per day to stay hydrated before surgery.


THE DAY BEFORE SURGERY:
Drink either of these the day before surgery, at least 10 hours before your scheduled surgery time.

At least 32 fluid ounces (1 liter) of Pedialyte or Gatorade Zero (low sugar) OR 2 bottles of Ensure Pre-Surgery Carbohydrate Clear Nutrition Drink


THE MORNING OF SURGERY:
Drink the following at least 2 hours before you are scheduled to arrive at the hospital for surgery. (eg. drink fluids before 5:30am if you are scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 7:30am)

16 fluid ounces of Pedialyte or Gatorade Zero (low sugar)
