About Tidewater Orthopaedics in Hampton Roads

Overview

Tidewater Orthopaedics is a subspecialty orthopedic and sports medicine practice serving Hampton Roads, recognized as orthopedic specialists Hampton Roads patients trust. The practice is staffed by board‑certified, fellowship‑trained orthopedic surgeons who specialize in specific areas of orthopedics, allowing for expert, highly focused care. The team treats a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions---including arthritis, sports injuries, tendon and nerve problems---using conservative treatments first, such as medication, splinting, physical therapy, and hand therapy. If needed, advanced surgical options are available, including minimally invasive arthroscopy and joint replacement procedures, performed at a dedicated orthopedic surgery center. Tidewater Orthopaedics has offices in Hampton, Williamsburg, and Suffolk, and provides care to patients.

Our History and Commitment to Specialized Care

Tidewater Orthopaedics has cared for patients across Hampton Roads, Virginia since the 1970s. Each year, we treat thousands of patients and have built a strong reputation for delivering high‑quality, patient‑focused orthopedic care Virginia families depend on.

As musculoskeletal specialists Virginia communities trust, our practice is entirely subspecialty‑driven, meaning every physician focuses on a specific area of orthopedics. That commitment to focused expertise is why many patients and referring providers know us as "The Specialist Group."

What Fellowship-Trained Means

Our surgeons are board‑certified (American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery) and are fellowship‑trained orthopedic surgeons (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons), meaning they completed medical school, a five‑year orthopedic surgery residency, and then an additional year of advanced training focused on one specialty area. This extra year---called a fellowship---helps them become true experts in their field, such as joint replacement, sports medicine, spine care, hand surgery, foot and ankle care, or trauma. Because of this advanced training, our doctors are able to offer more precise, specialized care than most general orthopedic practices.

Our Conservative, Patient-Centered Treatment Approach

We treat a wide range of bone, joint, muscle, and tendon conditions. This includes arthritis, rotator cuff and ACL tears, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and many other orthopedic problems. Whenever possible, we start with conservative treatments, such as medication, splinting, pain‑relief injections, and physical or hand therapy. Our in‑house therapists work closely with our surgeons to create treatment plans that help reduce pain, restore movement, and improve quality of life.

Advanced Surgical Options When Needed

If nonsurgical treatment is not enough, we offer advanced surgical options. Our surgeons perform knee, shoulder, elbow, and back procedures, as well as total and partial joint replacements---including hip replacement. We also perform minimally invasive outpatient arthroscopic surgery at our dedicated orthopedic ambulatory surgery center, the first facility of its kind in the region. We are proud to have two board‑certified hand surgeons and a fellowship‑trained foot and ankle surgeon, allowing us to care for even the most complex injuries and conditions.

In-House Imaging and Diagnostic Technology

Our imaging center uses advanced technology to make testing faster, more accurate, and more comfortable for patients. We offer digital X‑rays with machines that move around you instead of requiring awkward positioning, a large‑bore full‑body MRI designed specifically for orthopedic scans to improve comfort, and ultrasound imaging to evaluate soft‑tissue injuries and fluid buildup. These tools allow our providers to diagnose conditions more precisely and efficiently.
