If you're experiencing persistent neck pain or discomfort, paying attention to your body's signals is essential. One possible cause of neck pain is a bulging disc, which occurs when one of the cushiony discs between your vertebrae protrudes from its normal position. Here are some common symptoms that may indicate a bulging disc in your neck.

Neck pain: A bulging disc can cause localized pain in the neck, ranging from a dull ache to a sharp or burning sensation. This pain may be constant or intermittent and can worsen with certain movements or positions.

Arm pain, numbness, or tingling: When a bulging disc compresses a nerve root in the neck, it can cause pain, numbness, or tingling that radiates down the arm and into the hand. This sensation may be described as a "pins and needles" feeling or an electric shock-like pain.

Weakness in the arms or hands: Nerve compression from a bulging disc can also lead to weakness in the affected arm or hand. You may struggle to grip objects, write, or perform other fine motor tasks.

Headaches, especially at the base of the skull: A bulging disc in the upper part of the neck can sometimes cause headaches, particularly at the base of the skull. These headaches may be accompanied by neck pain and stiffness.

Stiffness and limited range of motion in the neck: A bulging disc can cause stiffness and decreased range of motion in the neck due to pain and muscle tension. You may find it difficult to turn your head or look up and down without discomfort.

Pain that worsens with movement or certain positions: Certain movements or positions, such as bending the neck forward or backward, tilting the head to the side, or turning the head, can exacerbate pain caused by a bulging disc.

Muscle spasms in the neck or shoulders: In response to pain and inflammation, the muscles in your neck and shoulders may tighten or spasm. These spasms can be painful and contribute to overall neck discomfort.
