Dr. Eric Vess is an orthopaedic spine surgeon at Tidewater Orthopaedics, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of back, neck, and spine conditions. He joined the practice in September 2023 after completing advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Vess earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2017. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester Department of Orthopaedics, where he received multiple academic and clinical honors, including the Soles‑Tisdale‑Lepel Hip Arthroplasty Resident Award.
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Vess has a strong background in research. His work has focused on hindfoot biomechanics and minimally invasive approaches to metastatic spine disease. He has authored several peer‑reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has received travel and academic awards for presenting his research during medical school.
Dr. Vess graduated magna cum laude from James Madison University with a degree in chemistry. He brings a thoughtful, evidence‑based approach to spine care, combining specialized fellowship training with a passion for improving patient outcomes. His expertise allows him to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex spinal conditions.
Originally from Virginia, Dr. Vess was excited to return to the area. He and his wife enjoy exploring the Hampton Roads community and spending time outdoors with their dog.
