At Tidewater Orthopaedics, we know your time is valuable. Preparing ahead of your appointment helps ensure a smooth visit and allows your provider to focus on what matters most — your care.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know before your visit, including what to bring, what to expect, and forms to complete.

Before Your Appointment

Confirm Your Appointment Details:

  • Verify your appointment date and time
  • Confirm which location you will be visiting
  • Your arrival time may be earlier than your scheduled appointment to allow time for check‑in and paperwork
    • Please confirm your expected arrival time when scheduling

Complete Required Forms

To save time on the day of your appointment, we strongly encourage completing forms in advance.

You have several convenient options:

  • Complete forms online using the secure link sent to you before your appointment
  • Use mobile check‑in if you choose to check in on your phone or device
  • Complete paper forms in the office if you prefer

If forms are not completed in advance, please arrive 15–30 minutes early.

  • Review driving directions and parking details for your location
  • Allow extra time for traffic, construction, or parking delays

What to Bring to Your Appointment

Please bring the following items with you:

Identification & Insurance.

  • Valid photo ID
  • Current insurance card(s)
  • Co‑pay, co‑insurance, or deductible (if applicable)
  • Referral authorization (if required by your insurance)

Tip: If your insurance requires a referral, we recommend confirming it has been received before your appointment.

Medical Information

  • Any X‑rays, MRIs, CT scans, or EMGs related to your condition
  • Relevant medical records or lab results
  • A list of healthcare providers who have treated you for this condition

If another provider has your records, please request they be sent to our office at least one week prior to your appointment and confirm receipt.

Medications & Medical History

  • A current list of prescription medications, supplements, and over‑the‑counter medications
  • Medication allergies (if any)
  • Summary of past surgeries, treatments, or medical conditions

Questions & Concerns

We recommend bringing a written list of:

  • Questions for your provider
  • Symptoms or concerns you want to discuss

This helps make the most of your appointment time.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Dress Comfortably.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Depending on your visit, you may be asked to change into a medical gown
  • Jewelry or metal items may need to be removed for imaging

Imaging Services

  • X‑rays may be taken during your visit if needed
  • Certain exams may require additional preparation

Wait Times

We do our best to stay on schedule; however, some visits may take longer due to:

  • Patients requiring urgent care
  • Complex conditions needing additional evaluation

Thank you for your patience — your provider will see you as soon as possible.

Physician Assistants

You may be seen by a physician assistant (PA) as part of your care. Our PAs work closely with our orthopaedic doctors and are highly trained to:

  • Conduct exams
  • Order and interpret tests
  • Prescribe medications
  • Assist with treatment and surgery

Your care team works collaboratively to provide the highest level of care.
