Postoperative Instructions

General Timeline 

Surgery

• Immediately following surgery, your hand will be wrapped in a supportive dressing and Ace wrap until your 3-5 day follow up with Hand Therapy

3-5 day follow up with Hand Therapy

• Incision check/range of motion check
• Post-op incision care instructions(okay to wash incision with warm water and antibacterial soap)
• Custom hand splint designed, if needed  

2 week follow up visit with physician assistant

• Suture removal  
• Incision check/range of motion
• Continue therapy and home exercise program 

6 week follow up visit with the physician

• Range of motion check
• Continue hand therapy vs. home exercise program 

What to expect after Dupuytren's Disease Surgery 

• Increased difficulty doing basic tasks (especially during the first 2 weeks following surgery)  
• Pain, soreness, sensitivity, and discomfort around incision site
• Residual sensitivity around incision site
• Immediate resolution of major contracture
• Gradual resolution of stiffness and soreness in the following 4-6 months after surgery
