General timeline:
Surgery:
Immediately following surgery, your hand and wrist will be wrapped in a supportive dressing and Ace wrap until your 3-5 day follow up with Hand Therapy.
3-5 day follow up with Hand Therapy:
Incision check/range of motion check
Post-op incision care instructions (okay to wash incision with warm water and antibacterial soap)
Wear gel flex wrist brace (provided at H&P visit)
2 week follow up visit with physician assistant:
Suture removal
Home exercise program provided
What to expect after Carpal Tunnel Surgery:
Increased difficulty doing basic tasks (especially during the first 2 weeks post op)
Pain, soreness, sensitivity, and discomfort around incision site
Potential immediate partial complete resolution of continuous numbness and pain relating to carpal tunnel
Gradual resolution of residual numbness, tingling in fingers and hand. **Full return of sensation based upon the severity of the nerve impingement, length of time the nerve has be compressed, and other existing health condition
