Carpal Tunnel Surgery

General timeline: 
 
Surgery:

 Immediately following surgery, your hand and wrist will be wrapped in a supportive dressing and Ace wrap until your 3-5 day follow up with Hand Therapy.  
 
3-5 day follow up with Hand Therapy:

 Incision check/range of motion check

 Post-op incision care instructions (okay to wash incision with warm water and antibacterial soap)

 Wear gel flex wrist brace (provided at H&P visit) 
 
2 week follow up visit with physician assistant:

 Suture removal  

 Home exercise program provided 
 
What to expect after Carpal Tunnel Surgery: 
 
 Increased difficulty doing basic tasks (especially during the first 2 weeks post op)

 Pain, soreness, sensitivity, and discomfort around incision site 

Potential immediate partial complete resolution of continuous numbness and pain relating to carpal tunnel

 Gradual resolution of residual numbness, tingling in fingers and hand. **Full return of sensation based upon the severity of the nerve impingement, length of time the nerve has be compressed, and other existing health condition
